The Solar Neighborhood VI: New Southern Nearby Stars Identified by Optical Spectroscopy
Broadband optical spectra are presented for 34 known and candidate nearby stars in the southern sky. Spectral types are determined using a new method that compares the entire spectrum with spectra of more than 100 standard stars. We estimate distances to 13 candidate nearby stars using our spectra and new or published photometry. Six of these stars are probably within 25 pc, and two are likely ...
متن کاملKinematics of Nearby Subdwarf Stars
We present an analysis of the space motions of 742 subdwarf stars based on the sample of Carney et al.(1994). Hipparcos parallaxes, TYC2+HIP proper motions and Tycho2 proper motions were combined with radial velocities and metallicities from CLLA. The kinematical behavior is discussed in particular in relation to their metallicities. The majority of these sample stars have metal abundances of [...
متن کاملThe Henize sample of S stars IV . New symbiotic stars ⋆
The properties of the few symbiotic stars detected among the 66 binary S stars from the Henize sample are discussed. Two stars (Hen 18 and Hen 121) exhibit both a strong blue-violet continuum and strong Hα emission (FWHM of 70 km s ), whereas Hen 134 and 137 exhibit weak Hα emission. The Hα profiles are typical of non-dusty symbiotic stars belonging to class S-3 as defined by Van Winckel et al....
متن کاملSubstellar Companions to Nearby Stars from NICMOSSurveysGlenn
A coronagraphic imaging survey of 65 nearby stars was conducted using the Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS) on the Hubble Space Telescope by the Instrument Deenition Team. Using these guaranteed time observations we searched for very low mass stellar and substellar (extra-solar giant planet and brown dwarf) companions to young main sequence and late M dwarf stars. Nine...
